A class designed for total beginners, almost beginners and those who need to review basic skills. Includes Windows programs, mouse and keyboard practice Learn to create simple word processing documents, spreadsheets and databases.

CP184: Digital Photography: "Click, then what?"*
Take better pictures with your digital camera. This course explores basic photography in the digital world. Better understand your digital camera’s advantages, disadvantages and vocabulary.  We will blend fundamental theory and practical hands-on work. We’ll take photographs under different conditions, get the photographs into and out of a digital camera and personal computer, discuss different organizing methods, do basic picture editing and explore alternatives for viewing, printing and saving photographs. There are lots of options in your digital camera; know what they are and when and how to use them. Recognize when “fully automatic” is the best strategy and when to take control.  There are 8 meetings of which three will be in the computer labs. Note new early evening time and day for 8 lessons spanning two sessions: *

CP141: Internet I
Learn the basics of the Internet. Learn how to search to find things of interest to you on the World Wide Web. Learn about Usenet newsgroups and how to read the ones you select. Learn to send and receive e-mail. Learn how to send pictures with email.  Learn about mailing lists and conventions for joining and leaving them. Internet Explorer, America Online and Netscape software will be demonstrated and used. Computer Skills I or previous computer experience is required.

CP193: Picasa for Photo Handling
Picasa is the premiere free program for organizing and editing your photos as well as special projects such as slide shows and webshare. The first session emphasizes organizing the photo library and basic editing and saving and backing up photos. We intend to help the student complete at least one fulfilling and rewarding project. It is recommended (but not required) that you purchase a copy of the text Organizing & Editing Your Photos with Picasa by Steve Schwartz (Amazon=$10). (Note this course is 8 lessons spanning two sessions.)

CP192: Movie Making for DVDs
Choose a desired memory-preserving project from your life, trips, or family history. Capture the digital images and video footage from your camera or camcorder or other media into the PC. Then put together digital video clips and/or digital still images and digital music to produce a multimedia movie on DVD. We will work with the free Windows programs Movie Maker and Photo Story to complete your individual project  and prepare you to produce future movie projects. Note this course is 8 lessons spanning two sessions.

Learn how to get the free Calendar and Docs applications available from Google. Use Google Docs to create, share and collaborate on documents in real-time. Use Google Calendar to coordinate meetings and social events with sharable calendars.

You don’t need to buy MS Office. Open Office is a free suite of programs that will do everything that MS Office can do and then some. We will show you how to get it over the Internet, how to install it, and what each of the individual programs can do. This session concentrates on Writer (like MSWord) and Calc (like Excel).
